Come see that future begin ...

In December, GYC and its allies won a major victory in the long-running battle over snowmobile use in Yellowstone National Park. Judge Emmett Sullivan of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia struck down the Bush Administration’s plan for continued use of snowmobiles, and reinstated a Clinton Administration phase-out of snowmobiles. That decision is under attack, however, from the federal government, the State of Wyoming and the snowmobile industry. They have appealed Judge Sullivan’s decision to the appellate court in the District of Columbia, and have also reopened a court case in the federal court in Wyoming, in an attempt to bring snowmobile use back to Yellowstone.

One of the organizations allied with GYC in this battle is Winter Wildlands. Last winter, Winter Wildlands sponsored a “Stand Up For Yellowstone” rally inside the West Entrance to the Park at West Yellowstone. Hundreds of supporters of a clean and quiet winter in Yellowstone gathered to show their support for the phase out of snowmobile use. Winter Wildlands is again sponsoring the “Stand Up For Yellowstone” rally, this time on Valentines Day, February 14, 2004. We urge you to join the celebration at this critical time, to help let the Park Service and the folks in West Yellowstone know that there the public supports alternatives to visiting Yellowstone on a snowmobile.

Take advantage of the myriad of world-class cross-country skiing opportunities that the park and the West Yellowstone area have to offer. Most of all, help us send a message that skiers and others who do not ride snowmobiles can once again be a vital part of the local winter economy.

Even if you cannot attend the "Stand up for Yellowstone" Rally, please come to visit West Yellowstone at some other time during the winter- W. Yellowstone businesses need your non-snowmobile recreation dollars! Below is a list of serv
